The Canton of Bern, one of the three great Swiss cantons of tourism, lies at the heart of Switzerland. It consists of six regions, such as the Bernese Oberland, Emmental. Oberaargau and Bern-Mittelland. Some of its best-known tourist destinations are Adelboden, Gstaad, Interlaken and Grindelwald.
The Canton’s main language is German, followed by French and Italian. The widely-spoken regional dialect is “Berndeutsch”.
Restaurants here are dubbed “Bären” (bears). The bear is the heraldic animal, uniting the Bernese virtues of reliability and down-to-earth mentality .
The Canton of Bern spans the widest extension of all cantons reaching from Jura over Mittelland all the way to the Alps. The so-called Röstigraben forms the natural border between German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland.
The Wooded hills of the Bernese Jura and the wide and open Mittelland with its lakes and unique mountains of the Oberland – these are the things that make this region such a great place to be, blessed with a high quality of life, a wonderful interplay between nature and culture, tradition and innovation.
