The Aosta Valley is with a surface of just 3.266 km ² the smallest region of Italy. However, one third of this surface lies at more than 2,600-metre height and, therefore, the mountains formed by archaic glaciers also belong to the highest in Europe.

The skiing areas in the Aosta Valley dispose of a total of just 880 km of downhill courses, 300 km of cross-country skiing trails and 166 rise arrangements.
