In the central square of the village, on a pedestal, there is a bronze statue of Catarina Lanz. It is said that during the war for the freedom of the Tyrol, this lady, a native of San Vigilio, seeing the French troops there, took a pitchfork and barred the way to the country, to defend the Church and the cemetery from desecration.
During summer San Vigilio is transformed into a paradise for mountaineers, hikers and climbers. From the easy paths to more challenging routes, a whole range of choices are offered to meet everyone's need. San Vigilio and its surroundings also offer to bikers ideal trail conditions!

San Vigilio is located at the side of the Val Badia and at the center of the park Fanes-Senes-Braies.
It is said about Val Badia to be one of the most beautiful valleys in South Tyrol. Flanked on the right and left by steep slopes and lush forests, is characterized by numerous farmsteads that, as if by magic, lie on the slopes of the valley.
